To enhance understanding of the human response to disease and suffering, deepen the interpretive skills of health professionals, situate medicine in its broader social and cultural context, and improve the delivery of health care at UCSF and beyond.

POETS ON PARNASSUS
Under the direction of Dr. David Watts, this group meets informally throughout the year for open readings and guest poets.
BAY AREA HISTORY OF MEDICINE CLUB
Founded in 1970 by UCSF physician-bibliophiles, this history of medicine group sponsors seven public lectures each academic year and has done so continuously since the club's inception.
